Backstage to host Authority Control Seminars in the UK

Backstage Library Works Presents: Authority Control

Thursday, October 4, 2007 - CILIP, London

An introductory seminar for academic, special, school and public library staff interested in learning more about automated authority control: the standardization of headings in bibliographic records using programming and machine processes. The presentation will include an overview of the BSLW authority control process; "before" and "after" examples of name, subject, and series headings; issues specific to authority work in the UK; and a Question/Answer session for individual discussion.

There is no charge for attendance. Two sessions are available, either 9:00am-11:00am or 2:00pm-4:00pm.   • We had a great time at ALA in Washington DC and debuted our brand new booth. Read this blog to see one person's reaction. Thanks to all of you that came by, and if you didn't get a chance visit us or see the booth, then be sure and come by at Mid-winter. As always we gave away plenty of our world-famous blinky starts. In fact we handed out over 3,000 of them.

June 2007

  • Visit us at ALA. We'll be in booth number 2033 and we'll be giving out more of our world famous blinky stars.
  • We just returned from the Special Library Association show in Denver Colorado. That sure is a great city and we had a great time meeting all the folks that visited our booth. Thanks for stopping by. We'll see you next year at the SLA in Seattle.

  • Happy New Year!
  • Backstage Library Works will be exhibiting at Midwinter ALA January 19-22, 2007. We'll be in booth 1219, so be sure and stop by to say hello and to pick up one of our world famous blinky stars.
  • At the Midwinter ALA, Backstage Library Works will be hosting another authority control usergroup breakfast/meeting.   • Backstage Library Works had a wonderful time in New Orleans at the annual American Libraries Association convention. Thanks to all of you who stopped by the booth to say hello and to learn about ways we can make your library run more efficiently.
  • Backstage Library Works hosted another breakfast and user-group meeting at ALA for our authority control customers and those interested in learning more about our service. We'll do it again in Seattle, so if you would like to be included, let us know. Authority Control

    If you didn't get a chance to see us then, don't cry. We'll also be at the Special Libraries conference June 11-13 in Baltimore and at the summer ALA in New Orleans.
  • Recent projects for Backstage Library Works include retrospective conversion for Stanford University Lane Medical, authority control for East Carolina University, Bellingham Technical College and the HELIN Consortium. We are also doing further digitization projects for Hamilton College this month.

  • Thanks to all of you who came to visit us at PLA in Boston. We had a wonderful time and had a chance to meet quite a few new people.
  • We had added an additional person to our sales team. It's Lara Henry and we couldn't be more pleased! She charms everyone she knows and will be a great addition to the team.

  • New projects this month include authority control for Casa Grande Public Library, retrospective conversion for the North Ireland Libraries Board, MARC21 conversion for the College of Europe, reclassification for Elizabeth City State University, and slide digitization for SUNY Buffalo.
