FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Backstage Library Works created as a "one-stop" library service
OREM, Utah-November 00, 2003- Sister companies MARC Link and Access Imagery have joined under one nameBackstage Library Works to offer librarians the convenience of a single source for a large variety of library services. Librarians worldwide can now make one phone call to access support for projects ranging from retrospective conversion to digitization.
"Our business has simply outgrown its roots," said company founder John Merrill. "We started out in business providing only retrospective conversion services. The name MARC Link Retrospective Conversion accurately described us. Then as Access Imagery we began helping librarians digitize materials. Over the years our capabilities have grown and now we provide all sorts of additional services, like cataloging, creating and reformatting records in MARC and non-MARC formats and in 100 languages, digitizing all types of library materials, and text conversion and mark-up into TEI and other XML-based formats. Our old names just dont fit anymore."
Backstage Library Works will now provide all of those services through one single point of contact. By "sharing expertise," Merrill believes his staff will be able to address the wide range of librarians needs all at once, solving problems more quickly and cost-effectively.
The name Backstage was chosen to reflect the companys mission to provide behind-the-scenes professional services to librarians. Although the name is changing, the companys commitment to quality, its high standard of customer service, and its honest and ethical treatment of clients and employees will never change.
Backstage Library Works will maintain its current staff of about 70 employees at its location in Orem, Utahabout 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. Clients include Cambridge University, Stanford University Library, The Library of Congress, The New York Historical Society, The Victoria & Albert Museum, and many more.
